Tony is very involved in the community and has served on city boards, home builders associations, & various charitable and community organizations.
Tony likes to spend his time away from Sparta with his family and friends. He enjoys hunting, traveling, and relaxing by the pool while cooking on his smoker. He is a very proud father of his children and likes to share stories about them. His son has also spent some time working with Sparta during his breaks from college. He graduated from LSU with a degree in Engineering. His daughter is attending the University of Tarleton with a degree in Nursing.
Tony Gallagher
Owner/President
Is an owner and the President of Sparta Crane & Drilling. He is a veteran and honorably served in the United States Army. Tony is a licensed CDL driver and has been in the construction industry for over 30 years and has experience in all divisions of the company. Tony is a native to the central Texas area, he grew up in Belton and graduated from Belton High School.
Ryan Smith
Owner/Vice President
Owner and Vice President of Sparta Crane & Drilling, with over 20 years of experience in heavy equipment operation, crane and drilling rig management, welding, and billboard construction. A Salado, Texas native, he graduated from Salado High School and earned an associate degree from Temple College.Ryan brings over 14 years of crane operation experience and 8 years in drilling rig operations.
With more than 20 years in welding, he’s developed a deep understanding of fieldwork, equipment, and the precision required to keep every project running safely and efficiently. He holds a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and the following certifications:

NCCCO Mobile Crane Operator (STC, TLL, TSS)

He serves on the NCCCO Drill Rig Operator Exam Management Committee, helping set national standards for operator safety. Ryan is also active in his community, serving on the City of Temple Planning and Zoning Committee and the ADSC National Board of Directors. Outside of work, he enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, and perfecting Texas-style barbecue with his family and friends.
Wren Pamplin
Controller/Human Resources Administrator
Wren is the Controller and Human Resources Administrator at Sparta Crane & Drilling, managing the company’s finances and HR operations. Since joining in 2020, she’s become a key leader, known for her organization and expertise. With 17 years of prior experience in management and HR, she ensures Sparta remains compliant with state regulations, workers’ compensation, and tax requirements.
A Belton High School graduate and local resident, Wren also serves as a company notary. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her family and dogs, traveling, camping, and spending time with friends.
Marshall Smith
Crane Division Manager
Is the Operations Manager for the Crane division at Sparta Crane & Drilling. He is our California born crane expert who joined us in 2020. He originally took his position at Sparta as a senior crane operator. His experience and leadership abilities quickly led him to the top and into the role as Operations Manager over his Division. He is a licensed CDL driver as well as a certified NCCCO crane operator with a CPR certification. He has been in the crane operations business for 18 years. Marshall likes to spend his time away from Sparta with his family at races, fishing, baseball, and being outdoors in general.
Mike Turner
Drilling Division Manager
Is the Operations Manager for the Drilling division at Sparta Crane & Drilling. He is the newest member to our team. He has over 25 years of experience supervising in the construction field. His previous work history was in steel fabrication/erection and general construction. He is certified in OSHA 30, 4G Welding Certification, Fall Protection, and OSHA Steel Erection Certification. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family doing outdoor activities. He enjoys hunting and fishing with his kids and friends. He also likes building projects like smokers, gates, and other metal structures with his kids, while watching them learn the trades.
Dom Ferrua
Fleet Manager
Is the Fleet Manager for Sparta Crane & Drilling. Dom joined our team in 2023 with over 23 years of experience to lead the repairs and maintenance over our entire fleet of trucks and rigs. Originating from California himself, he has brought an insight that we did not have before and he has made huge improvements to our overall fleet. Dom is certified in air brakes & air conditioning. When he is away from Sparta he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, watching UFC, basketball, and football.
Rachel Crowder
AR Manager/ Human Resources
Is the Accounts Receivable Manager for Sparta Crane & Drilling. Rachel had 5 years of previous quickbooks/HR experience before she came to Sparta. Rachel maintains and issues all our billings, estimates, and invoices. She works with Dom to maintain the fleet as well as human resource relations. Rachel spends her weekends with her husband and her son. They enjoy the theatre, gardening, being outdoors, and game nights as a family.
